Blazing Griffin is a BAFTA award-winning independent digital entertainment company headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland.

Specializing in storytelling across multiple platforms, the company operates three core divisions: Blazing Griffin Games (video game development), Blazing Griffin Pictures (film and TV production), and Blazing Griffin Post Production (high-end post-production services).

With a focus on narrative-driven experiences, cross-media IP adaptations, and cutting-edge technology, Blazing Griffin combines creativity, innovation, and technical excellence to deliver world-class content for global audiences.

They employ approximately 85 staff across creative, technical, and operational roles.

History and Growth

Blazing Griffin traces its roots to a small game development studio founded in 2011, which merged with two other start-ups in 2015 to form the modern group. From humble beginnings with just three team members, it has expanded into a multifaceted powerhouse, earning BAFTA recognition and establishing itself as a key player in Scotland’s creative industries.

The company emphasizes values like community, impact, ambition (“We do big things”), and diversity, with leadership that includes BAME-, female-, and LGBTQ+-led representation.

Hercule Poirot

Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christie’s iconic Belgian detective, stars in a series of point-and-click adventure games focused on investigation, clue collection, interrogation, deduction mind maps, and narrative-driven mysteries. These span early 2000s PC/mobile titles (often hidden object hybrids) to modern Unreal Engine-powered releases with cinematic storytelling. Most are published by Microids (formerly Anuman), with Blazing Griffin handling original prequel stories.

As of December 2025, over a dozen games feature Poirot, blending faithful book adaptations (e.g., The ABC Murders, Murder on the Orient Express) with originals like The First Cases. Recent hits include the 2025 Death on the Nile remake, praised for its 1970s twist and dual protagonists.

California Schemin’

Blazing Griffin, through its Pictures division, played a pivotal role in the production of California Schemin’ (2025), James McAvoy’s directorial debut.

The film is a feel-good underdog comedy-drama based on the true story of Scottish rappers Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd (aka Silibil N’ Brimstone), who conned the music industry in the late 1990s by adopting fake Californian accents to secure a record deal and MTV appearance—until their hoax unraveled. Adapted from Bain’s autobiography Straight Outta Scotland and the 2013 SXSW documentary The Great Hip Hop Hoax, it stars Séamus McLean Ross, Samuel Bottomley, Lucy Halliday, Rebekah Murrell, and McAvoy himself.

The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2025, with its UK gala premiere set to close the Glasgow Film Festival 2026 (March 2026) and a theatrical release in UK/Ireland cinemas on April 10, 2026, distributed by StudioCanal.
